About
Brett Morreau is an award-winning Métis-Canadian composer and sound designer for film, television, and video game projects. Brett composed the edgy score for the French-Canadian dark-thriller THOSE WHO PLAY WITH FIRE (CEUX QUI JOUENT AVEC LE FEU), combining piano, strings, and synths into a score embracing the twists, turns, and intensity of the film's story. For the genre-mixing THE FRACTURED ANTHOLOGY, Brett created a set of uniquely atmospheric scores that linked the six short post-apocalyptic films into a cohesive anthology.
Stepping into the animation realm, Brett composed scores for the superhero film CAN MAN, the anime-inspired ALERCRON, and the science-fiction thriller PREACHER BOY. As a member of a trio of all-indigenous creative teams, Brett composed scores for the comedy feature film A DAY ON THE RES, the documentary feature film WE’RE UP HERE: REBUILDING A NATION IN CANADA’S NORTHWEST (NFB / APTN), as well as the TV documentary special RETURN TO ST. AUGUSTINE’S (CBC / APTN), all featuring evocative chamber orchestra scores mixed with indigenous instruments. As part of a composers' group, he composed scores for three episodes of the docuseries OFF THE CUF (Amazon Prime).
An accomplished sound designer, editor, and re-recording mixer, Brett worked on all the previously mentioned projects in these capacities, as well as for the upcoming science-fiction thriller feature NEUROVENGE, the psychological thriller/slasher feature GRIEF, and the found-footage horror feature GODFORSAKEN. His combined work as composer and sound designer won him the Best Music & Sound Design Award at the TFS Festival of Films for the short films TECHNICALLY LOVE and A STRUCK CHORD in back-to-back years.
A classically-trained pianist through the Royal Conservatory of Music in Canada, Brett graduated from the University of Western Ontario with an Honours Bachelor of Music in Theory and Composition and a Bachelor of Arts Major in Film Studies. Continuing his studies at UCLA, Brett graduated with a Masters in Film Scoring before returning home to Canada. As a composer fluent in the workflows and tools of post-production audio, he brings both creative vision and technical problem-solving skills to every project he works on.
“I’ve worked with Brett on several projects, and he always has a knack for setting the right tone emotionally for any given scene, no matter the genre, fiction or non-fiction.”
